Over the last couple of weeks there has been an increase in the numbers of students arriving late for school. Students who arrive late miss Form Time, Assembly and the beginning of their first lesson; this means that they miss important information and often disrupt the teaching and learning of others. We would be grateful for the absolute support of all parents/carers in ensuring that their child leaves home early enough each morning to get to school on time and in encouraging them to be punctual.
Students who arrive late for no good reason are issued with a 30 minute detention that evening; this is increased to an hour should a student fail to attend. If a student fails to attend a one hour detention then this is increased to a two hour Senior Leadership Team Detention.
Over the last few years, attendance has dropped off in the week before Christmas. I can only assume
that some parents allow their children to stay off because we are approaching the end of term and they think that lessons are ‘winding down’. I cannot stress enough that lessons will continue up until 12.00 noon on Tuesday 20th December and allowing a child to stay off for no good reason means that they miss 5 hours of learning on that day and fall behind their class mates in 5 different subjects. Students do not need an extended holiday, they have two weeks out of school to look forward to and enjoy; I hope that all parents will support their child’s learning by ensuring full attendance until the end of term unless absence is absolutely unavoidable.
Thank you for reading this information and for your continued support.
