The Sports and Healthy Lifestyles department aims to offer a diverse programme of activities in which every pupil participates. The activities on offer are designed to be enjoyable and challenge pupil’s physical abilities. The Academy benefits from superb facilities for a wide variety of sports, including a multi-use games area, 3 Netball/ tennis/ basketball courts, a sand long jump, two full size grass football pitches, a full side sports hall and fully equipped gym.
In addition to excellent Sports and Healthy Lifestyles lessons, there are many extra curriculum and competitive inter-schools matches. The Academy has an impressive record of success in local tournaments including Tameside School competitions.
The Academy’s Sports Leaders are a group of committed students who give up their time to assist the Sports and Healthy Lifestyle department. Sean Leyland-Raine referees all primary school football games which are hosted at the Academy; he has also been recently named School Sport Ambassador.
Due to the success of last year Dance Club has resumed with approximately 20 local primary school attending the after school dance club. These brilliant and enjoyable classes are hosted by Jessica Holden, Molly Flynn, Bayleigh Parkes, Ashleigh Allcroft, Megan Davies-Truin, Madison Mellor, Emily Graves and Tia Nash.
The Sports Leaders are all a credit to the Academy. Keep up the great work!
